A memorial service for Joy Beverly Mae LaBar Deal, 74, will be held Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Lufkin. Joy passed away peacefully March 14 at her home in Crystal Beach surrounded by her loving family. Joy was born April 22, 1940 in Quebec City, Canada to Jimmy and Ruby LaBar and moved to Lufkin in 1941. Three years ago she moved to Crystal Beach with her daughter. Joy celebrated 50 years of marriage to Donald E. Deal prior to his death in 2008. Joy worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Memorial Hospital for 20 years and a travel agent at Holiday Travel for 8 years. Joy wrote poems, was an avid reader, loved to cruise and was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church where she was affectionately known as 'The Hat Lady.' Joy was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her sister, Toni Williams; son-in-law, Stinger Wallace; sister-in-law Leona Deal; brother-in-law Bill Deal. Joy is survived by five children: daughter, Sherry Wallace of Crystal Beach; sons and wives, Norman and Renee Deal of Hudson; Donald 'Butch' and Carole Deal of Jacksonville, Fl; Randy and Dawn Deal of Hudson; and Jimmy and Kim Deal of Shelbyville. Eight grandchildren: Aaron and Brittney (Deal) Smith and Dane Griffith; Cory Deal; Cody and Cady Deal; Blake, Blane and Blaire Deal. Two great-grandchildren: Alexis Deal and Max Smith. Special friends: Patsy Hines and Denise Bennefield.
