Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church for Olivia Mendoza Olivares, with Father Raymundo Garcia, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with the family receiving friends and loved ones from 5 to 7 p.m. Mrs. Olivares, 66, of Diboll, was born July 19, 1946 in Hamlin, Texas, the daughter of the late Maria L. (Lujan) and Ismael Mendoza, Sr. She passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 in a local hospital. Olivia graduated from Hamlin High School in 1964. She went on to graduate nursing school at the age of 19 from the Standford Memorial Hospital training program. She started her nursing career at Standford in 1966. Olivia later worked at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin for over 20 years. She dedicated her life to the medical field for 40 years. She was a resident of Diboll and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Olivia was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and coworker who will be missed. Survivors include her husband, Manuel A. Olivares of Diboll; son, David Michael Olivares of Conroe; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Anthony and Katie Olivares of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter, Patricia Gail Olivares; grandchildren, Cesar Hernandez, Allison Olivares, Seth Olivares, Gracie Olivares, Wyatt Olivares and Justice Ty Ethridge; brother, Ismael Mendoza, Jr. of Abilene; sisters, Emma Soliz of Rotan and Rosemary Rodriguez of Diboll; and a number of other family members and friends. Olivia's family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Sid Roberts, Dr. Carlton Lewis, and Francisco Torres, R.N., of Hospice in the Pines for the loving care shown to her during her illness. Pallbearers will be Cesar Hernandez, Gabriel Mendoza, Ismael Mendoza III, John Soliz, Jessie Rodriguez and Bryan Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be the Scrub Team at Memorial Medical Center.
