Services for Vernell Baker, 62, of Lufkin, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in the Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery. Ms. Baker was born February 15, 1949 in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of the late Martha (Cryer) and Levy Baker. She passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 in a local hospital. Ms. Baker loved her children and grandchildren. She never complained about anything. She enjoyed reading, gardening and especially dancing. She was a millwright for Triple J Millwork. Ms. Baker was of the Pentecostal Faith. Survivors include her very best friend, Andre¹ Be¹langer of Huntington; daughter, Chandra LeFors of Lufkin; granddaughters, Kristy Phillips, Jessica LeFors, Amber Branum, and Amy Branum; grandson, Shane Gammons; 5-1/2 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Clareen and Verlin Cryer of Huntington, Linda and Darrell G. Gammons of Lufkin and Debra and Joey Allo of Morreo, LA; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Jenny Baker of Morreo, LA and Roy Gene and Tamara Baker of Shepherd; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Ms. Baker was preceded in death by her son, Luke Branum; and father of her children, Guy Preston Branum. Pallbearers will be David Cortez, Gary Cortez, William Crain, Orin Johnson, Bobby Weaver and James Quemby. Services are in the care of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
