Funeral services for Willie Hernandez, 83, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Reverend Richard Joseph officiating. Interment will follow in Ryan Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Hernandez was born February 10, 1931 in Rice, Texas to the late Feliz and Jose Hernandez. He died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Hernandez worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years, retiring as a Postal Clerk Supervisor. Six months after retirement, he chose to stay active by going back to work. Mr. Hernandez was a graduate of Port Arthur College, majoring in bookkeeping. He had resided in Lufkin since 1978; and prior to that, he lived in Port Arthur for 27 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Hernandez of Lufkin; his children and their spouses, Martha Sue and Dennis Blair of Annapolis, Maryland, Stephen Earl Hernandez of Port Arthur, and Jodi Lynn and Vince Neuman of Spring; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Randall and Kelly Noe of Lufkin, Jason and Angela Blair of Sedona, Arizona, Courtney and Adam Shampaine of Arnold, Maryland, Timothy Hernandez of Lufkin, Joshua Hernandez of Groves, Staff Sgt. Phillip Hernandez of Clovis, New Mexico, Mickey Hernandez of Nederland, and Kaitlin Neuman of Spring; four great grandchildren with one more on the way; sister, Eduarda Vara of San Antonio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Josh Hernandez, Mickey Hernandez, Tim Hernandez, Mark Guerra, Randall Noe, and David Hendry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904; or to the State of Texas Kidney Foundation, 45 NE Loop 410, Suite 255, San Antonio 78216, online athttps://txkidney.org/donate.html.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.
