Services for Ollie Mae Day, 74, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Hazell officiating. Interment will follow in the White Rock Cemetery in Center. Mrs. Day was born March 6, 1940 in Center, Shelby County, Texas, the daughter of the late Loyce Elizabeth (Chandler) and Ezra Smith. She passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 in a local hospice facility. Mrs. Day was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Day cherished time spent with her family the most. She was particularly fond of hummingbirds and loved trips to Disney World. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for her kind and generous heart. She was retired from Diboll ISD. Survivors include her son, Alan Dale Day of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Diane (Day) and J. C. Taylor of Little Rock, Arkansas; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Gene and Sharon Day of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Virginia and Doyle Grissom of San Antonio and Helen and Joe Odom of Shepherd; brother, Alec Smith of Vermont; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Lendal Jones of Diboll; sister, Bettie Sue Havard of Diboll; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Day; daughter, Pamela K. Day; brother, James Smith; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Smith. Pallbearers will be J. C. Taylor, Wayne Havard, Randy Havard, Dennis Smith and Paul Pollock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Day's memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Street, Lufkin, TX 75904. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
