Funeral services for Reverend L.D. Adkison, 83, of Diboll will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Leslie Wilkinson and Reverend Sherman Hoot officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County. Rev. Adkison was born May 17, 1931 in Pinehill, Texas to Frank and Mae (Childress) Adkison, and died Friday, August 15, 2014 in a local nursing home. Formerly of Corrigan, Rev. Adkison had resided in Diboll for 15 years. He pastored many churches in Moscow, Corrigan, Carmona, Lufkin and Belott. Rev. Adkison was a member of the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Corrigan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Adkison of Diboll; daughter-in-law, Regina Adkison of Wells; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Kate and Red Smith of Corrigan, Suzy and Don Hicks of Kennard, Patricia and Steve Berry of Hudson and Betty Jean Jones of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chris Flores and Shanna Cormier; 6 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Daniel and Doris Adkison of Corrigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Adkison; first wife, Opal Adkison; stepdaughter, Debra Castillo; and brother, B.F. Adkison. Pallbearers will be Chris Flores, B.J. Evans, Jacob McDuffie, Red Smith, Travis Bell and Ronnie Cormier. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services.
