Marva Sumlin Brown was born August 25, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas to Mary and Henry Sumlin. Marva accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She was a 1966 Dunbar High School graduate. As a student at Dunbar, Marva was a cheerleader, Miss East Texas Splash Day, Miss Explorer, Miss Dunbar (second runner-up), Miss Delphia (second runner-up), NFA Sweetheart, Most Popular Sophomore, avid tennis player and more. Marva completed her education at Texas Southern University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Business. She was employed with Alief Independent School District. Marva Sumlin Brown departed this life on October, 25, 2009, in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her mother and stepfather Mary and Lee Whitley and father and stepmother Henry and Clarise Sumlin of Lufkin, two daughters Kimberly and Kesha Brown of Houston, one grandson Daniel Brown of Houston, brothers Gary Sumlin of Houston, Ronald Crain and Calvin Holmens of Lufkin, sisters Sedellia Covington of Houston, Margaret White of Diboll, Barbara "Tank" Sumlin of Lufkin, Vivian (Kelvin) Crain of Lufkin, Pamela (James) Scott of Nacogdoches, aunts Vera (Marcellus) Jones of Diboll, Rhoda Davis of Milwaukee, Wis., Earlene Sumlin of Lufkin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special cousins Minnie Jones of Diboll and Mozell Fletcher of Dallas. Services are to be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 100 Pine Street, Diboll, Texas, at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the service at the church.
