Mervia Lee Leavings, 84, of Lufkin, was born November 9, 1925 in Jasper County, Texas. She passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. Mrs. Leavings was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family and friends. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster of the Keltys Station. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jenni and Ken Hammond; daughters, Jerri Gilbert and Peggy and the late Dr. C.D. Dotson; grandchildren, Jerry Don and Lucianna Gilbert, Kevin Gilbert, Harley and Kim Gilbert, Ivy and Jennifer Collins, Clay Hammond, Michael and Rebecca Hammond, Jennifer Dotson, Christopher and Katey Dotson, Meredith Dotson, Steven Wilkens, Jessica Malone and Datha Ward; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abby, Luke, Giovanna and Isabella Gilbert and Emily Collins; great-great-grandson, Ceygan Dotson; and a number of special family members and special friends. Mrs. Leavings was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Leavings. Graveside services for Mrs. Leavings will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, in the Gregory Cemetery near Colmesneil, with Bro. Jerry DuBose, of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, officiating. Gipson Funeral Home, directors.
