Joe Gibson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2012.
Joe David Gibson of Huntsville, Texas, passed away November 1, 2012, in Conroe, Texas, with his wife and children by his side. Services will be held Monday, November 5, 2012, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home located in Huntsville, Texas at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor C.F. Hazelwood officiating. Interment will follow at Farris Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas. Family will receive friends Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Joe was born November 10, 1957 in Ennis, Texas to Johnnie and Clarice Gibson. He accepted Christ into his life at his baptism in 2001 at Faith Lutheran Church in Huntsville, Texas. He was raised in Schertz, Texas and after high school he proudly carried on the family tradition of enlisting to serve his country in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany where he was a Specialist in the Field Artillery Division. After honorably serving for four years he then moved to Huntsville to begin his employment as a Correctional Officer for the Texas Dept of Corrections in 1976 and eventually became the Director of the Pest Control Operations for the southern region of TDC. During his employment he was also a student at Sam Houston State University studying General Agriculture. Venturing out on his own in 1983 Joe established Precision Pest Control in Huntsville, Texas, where he and his family have successfully operated for 29 years. Being a supportive father in the activities of his children brought great joy to Joe. He wore many hats as a dedicated father and husband. He was happiest when he was coaching on a soccer or baseball field, grooming the livestock for showing, pulling a barrier for the steer wrestlers or driving a tractor to prepare the rodeo arena for that days event. He unselfishly shared his time to benefit all kids that needed his helping hand. It was evident that he always had their best interest at heart! His involvement in other organizations included serving as President of the Texas Pest Control Association/Bluebonnet Chapter, Committee member of the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited, State Director of the Texas High School Rodeo Association, a Director for the Walker Country Fair Association as well as serving as a board member for the Huntsville Boys Baseball Association to name a few. Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Charissa Bonner Gibson; sons Tyler Gibson of Huntsville and Travis Gibson of Austin; daughters Kailee Gibson of Huntsville and Jodee’ Gibson Lauffer and son in law Steve of New Braunsfels, Texas; Mother and Father in law John and JoAnn Bonner of Lufkin, Texas; brother Johnnie Gibson and sister in law of Debbie of Harker Heights, Texas; nephew Jason Gibson of Sugarland, Texas; and numerous other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jackie Gibson of Harker Heights. Pallbearers honoring Joe are: Jimmy Bonner, Jason Gibson, Joey Filla, Brian Carroll and Bill Tutor.
