Franklin H. Matchett Jr., age 57, of Barryton, MI and Huntington, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born November 23, 1955 in Lufkin, the son of Franklin Harvey Matchett and Wanda Johnson Matchett. Frank graduated with Honors from Huntington High School in Huntington. He was the Drum Major for the Huntington High School Band and was an accomplished musician. He attended Ora Missionary Baptist Church in Texas, where he served as Song Director for many years. He dearly loved this Church which he helped build. Frank had many different ventures throughout his working life including owning his own garbage disposal company and driving trucks. He was a man with many talents and he was always willing to help anyone. He fought his battle with cancer courageously and with great Faith in God. Frank enjoyed life, living and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Pearl Fowler of Barryton; his children, Mary (Jim) Becker of Coral, Ernest Bergman of Lakeview, Franklin Matchett III of Texas, C J (Virginia) Matchett of Coral, Rona (Thomas) Peake of Barryton and Robert Matchett of Texas; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his father, Franklin Sr.; Brother Jerry ( Patricia) Matchett ; Sisters Janet ( Patrick) Williams and Teresa Kees and many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his mother; a daughter, Vivian Gabrielle Simmons and a grandson, Harley Simmons. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor Randy Piatt officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A Memorial service in Huntington, Texas, is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Ora Missionary Baptist Church on FM 2109 with Pastor Wesley Matchett officiating. Memorial contributions in Frankâ€™s name may be made to the Daggett Funeral Home to help assist the family with expenses. Due to his long battle with cancer all contributions would be appreciated.
