Services for Floyd Gene Cheney, 64, of Zavalla, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. E. B. 'Bubba' Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery. Mr. Cheney was born October 12, 1948 in Doucette, Texas, the son of the late Eunice (Cowart) and Wilford Cheney. He passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Cheney was a great husband and wonderful father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking and grilling and produced great pancakes. He was a retired logger. Mr. Cheney was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and the Zavalla Rodeo Club. Survivors include his wife, Donna Cheney of Zavalla; sons, Daryl Cheney, Timothy Cheney and wife Ashley and Jeremy Cheney and wife Angie, all of Zavalla; daughter, Jennifer Cheney of Zavalla; stepson, Patrick Cross of Broaddus; stepdaughters, Dolores Crawford of Zavalla, Misty Nerren and husband John David of Huntington, Christy Cross of Broaddus and Victoria Sheffield of Zavalla; 16 grandchildren; brothers, E. B. Sheffield and wife Kathy of Colmesneil, J. W. Cheney of Huntington, and Glenn Cheney and wife Kem of Colmesneil; sister, Marie Spurlock and husband Villa Dean of Colmesneil; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cheney was preceded in death by his brothers, Merville Lee Cheney and Jimmy Wayne Cheney; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Cheney. Pallbearers will be Bubba McCarty, Bo Bailey, Mark Bailey, John Cheney, Jerry Townsend and Jessie Rhodes. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
