Charlotte McCourt Obituary

CHARLOTTE MCCOURT Charlotte M. Tidwell McCourt, 84, of Pahrump, passed away July 8, 2010, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Wellington, Utah, and was a 40-year resident of Nevada. Charlotte held a zest for life and loved serving her family of five children; 20 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren. She had been the wife of Patrick L. McCourt for 67 happy years. Active in her community, she assisted in many political figures' campaign efforts. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Charlotte served as a leader in the Relief Society for over 20 years. She and her beloved husband also served a full-time mission in the Cabanatuan Mission in the Phillipines. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Patrick; children, Pat and Nellie McCourt, Dan and Lanny Shea, Bill and Marsha Sortor, David and Sherry d'Hulst, and Tom and Ann McMullin; and many grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 10, at the LDS Chapel, 921 E. Wilson, in Pahrump. We believe that Mom would say she was mortified to have taken a large role in the election of Harry Reid to U.S. Congress. Let the record show Charlotte was displeased with his work. Please, in lieu of flowers, vote for another more worthy candidate.

My condolences to the family of Charlotte McCourt for your loss. I too understand what you are going through as I recently lost my mother just a few months ago. There is a hole in your heart but with that comes the peace knowing your loved one is no longer in pain or suffering. I had the pleasure of knowing Charlotte for a number of years and know that she was a very wonderful woman. Pat, I am very sorry for your loss and pray that you will find the comfort to help you through this time. I am truly sorry for the temporary separation of Sister McCourt from those she knew and loved. What a wonderful message from the grave - may her desire be accomplished at the polls. I hope to live to the extent that I may be worthy of someday meeting Charlotte - I'm sure she will be in the Celestial Kingdom. May God bless her family and friends in her absence as she lives on in a much better realm.

I worked with Charlotte during the late 70's and thru the 80's on several key political issues, including the ERA. She was absolutely tireless and never lost her focus. Her integrity was second to none. We need more like her. Her wit and insights into the political arena were priceless.

A link to this appeared on my Facebook page referencing the last three sentences. Though obituaries are notoriously sad, I very much enjoyed reading this and can only think that Mrs. McCourt had to have been a positively delightful woman! I love a great sense of humor and for such a statement to be written in her obituary shows that she not only possessed one, but she handed it down through her generations, and now the nation. I love it! Wish I had known her.

Dear McCourt's:

I was sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. When I lived in Las Vegas I went to church with Charlotte and we were in the Christy Meadows Ward together. I am now in the Indianapolis area so I was not aware of your Mother's passing until I heard it on the news. She was a lovely, feisty lady and a great asset to our Relief Society. Many people will miss the vitality your mother brought with her. A great lady that I know you were proud of.
Sincerely

She was always on top of everything in the church as well as in the country! She loved politics and did so much for many campaigns. We loved her obituary and can see her saying exactly what was said in the closing lines! She always told it like it is. And now she's famous for it! Go Charlotte!!!

Charlotte was a great influence on our lives. She and Pat were our home teachers when we lived in the Christy Meadows Ward. In addition to faithfully visiting our family every month she took the extra time to bring a gospel activity for our two young children to participate. She and Pat were faithful missionaries in the Philippines. She stood for her principles and served her fellow man. She loved the temple and particpated on regular basis. My family's life is better for having associated with her.

WE can all be angels to one another. We can choose to obey the still small stirring wqithin, the little whisper that says, Go, Assk, Reach ouit. Be an answer to someone's plea. You have a aprt to play. have faith.' We can decide to reisk that He is indeed there, watching, caring, cherishing us as we love and accept love. the world will be a better place for it. And wherever they are, the angles will dance.

"Make yourself familiar with the angels, and behold them frequently in spirit: for with being seen, they are present with you. Saint Francis de Sales
