DURWARD HINCKLEY Durward J. "Jack" Hinckley, of Henderson, passed away at 8:10 a.m. (PST) Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Hinckley was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Wilmot, S.D., to Laura and William Hinckley. He graduated from Davenport (Iowa) High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1950 and master of arts degree from University of Iowa in 1957. He married Betty Lee Viers May 28, 1948, in Davenport. She passed away April 10, 2007. He was a teacher for 35 years, mostly in the Davenport Community Schools, retiring in 1985. He attended Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church in Henderson, and was formerly active with several organizations in both Iowa and Nevada. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Beth (Gary) Owens, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Paula Jo (Keith) Bishop-Lane, of Henderson; two sons, John Hinckley, of Henderson, and Rob "Lee" (Sandra) Hinckley, of Lafayette, Ind.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside and military services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, with Pastor Matt Pfeifer officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Palm Mortuary in Henderson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to New Hope Hospice, 8 Sunset Way, Ste. 101, Henderson, NV 89014.
