Harmon Tyner Obituary

SGT. HARMON TYNER U.S. Army, Retired Harmon David Tyner, 76, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully, June 29, 2009, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born July 18, 1932, in Hope, Ark., and was a 35-year resident of Las Vegas. Harmon was a retired sergeant with the U.S. Army, specializing in ballistic missiles. He enlisted February 1953 and after 21 years of seeing the world and raising a family, he completed his military career to retire in Las Vegas in 1974. He worked at the Jolly Trolly Casino on Sahara Ave. and Las Vegas Blvd. as a dealer. He then went on to Las Palmas Apartments as a security officer. Harmon ended his career in security after 12 years with U.M.C. Hospital. Harmon had a passion about eating good food with good people, black-eyed peas and cornbread were his favorites. He loved to go play at the casinos and always took advantage of inviting friends and family to meals. Harmon could tell a great story about his childhood on the farm and his Army life. He will always be remembered for his generosity and his heart of gold. Harmon was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Stone; and son, Billy Ray Tyner. Harmon was the beloved husband of Barbara Tyner; and the dear father of three children, Mary Ann Martin and husband, Mack, James Alan Tyner and wife, Melissa and Janet Sue Kernea and husband, Don. He loved his four grandchildren, Brian and Jayson, Amanda and Christina; and one great-grandchild, Hailey. Harmon gave the precious gift of donating his body to the Medical Education and Research Institute of Nevada (MERIN). Burial is pending at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.

Barb, I am so sorry to hear of Harmon's passing. As you know, he and I served at different times at the Nike Missile Site, B-3-1 at Herminie, PA. I was there 1958-1961 and he in 1966. Even though I did not personally know him, I'm sure Harmon was a good soldier, especially in the tradition of the Nike Air Defense. My deepest respect for Harmon's service and to you and your family for your dedication to our Country.
May God give you strength.

To Barb and the family

I'm deeply sorry for the lost of your husband and father. I know that Harmon is up in heaven looking down on you and trying to protect you just as he did on earth. I was able to meet with Harmon and Barb as they picked up vehicles from my office. Barb and I sat and talked for a while as Harmon just sat there and listen. He was a very quiet man, as it came time to take off he spoke in a soft tone and gave an encouraging word or two. Barb and Harmon has work with me for a couple of years. No matter what I asked of them they were there. We at the AMF family will truely miss Harmon. Barb think of him often and remember as the rain falls and seasons go by he is in heaven preparing a place for you right next to him. If you need anything just call.

To my friends the Tyner's I send you all great big hugs. Your Dad was the best. Getting to know all of you was a treat. I will miss his smile and kind words that was part of his personality. The stories he told about his Grandfather and himself, I will never forget. His awesome salsa was a treat. He will be missed by all who knew him. But I will especially miss my friend and neighbor.

Harmon is a spectacular man. I have never met someone so loving, happy and full of life. I truly miss him. Last August Harmon was a part of a Team Building weekend with work. Our facilitator went around the room asking each individual what they wanted to improve on and work on. When they got to Harmon he said "NOTHING", and the facilitator replied, "what do you mean", Harmon replied, I already have the most wonderful wife, I have beautiful children, I am happy, I have had everything I could ever imagine, great jobs, been able to travel, I have nothing more that I would want.

I will always remember his response and think about it often hoping that I too can get to a point in my life where I have had the best of everything as Harmon had.

Harmon: I love you and Thank You for my life lesson. You will always be remembered, thank you for sharing those special moments with those who came in contact with you. With Love,

Margaret Stone

Tyner family 7/7/09
I am so sorry to hear of Dave's death.
I wasn't on my computer for a few days and did not know until yesterday.I didn't see Dave a lot but whenever I did he was smiling and laughing. When I went to see Dick at UMC there was Dave with that big grin on his face.
I know he will be missed especially by you Barb. The one thing that helps you cope is that his suffering is over. That's what helped me.
Heaven is in for a treat - Henry, Marge, Dick and now Dave.
Much love May

Dear Tyner family,
There's no one in the world like our dear sweet Uncle Dave. He was a ray of sunshine, sprinkled with lots of laughter and that little sparkle of devil in his eyes. A super special person you couldn't help but love and you couldn't find a better friend. He will definitely live on in our hearts and we will cherish all the wonderful memories of the great times we had with him. We know he's looking down on you and us with that unforgetable smile!
Much love,

Working with "Uncle Dave" at UMC made an often difficult job enjoyable.

Dave showed kindness, compassion and empathy for both patients and coworkers. Dave had an easy going manner and a great sense of humor. He was also good listener.

Dave will be missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to know him.

Dave was a good soldier and friend.
Later we were to become brothers-in-law.
Having Dave around helped pass many long hours at the IFC site on Mulholland drive.
He always had a good story to tell and when there was work to be done we were always ready.
His family and the U.S.Army were his life and he made both proud.
I thank GOD that Dave did not have to suffer for long because he did not deserve to suffer.
Dave went to sleep and woke up in heaven.
I will miss him very much and he will be remembered by all those who knew him.
My prayers and condolences for the family. Dave is at peace but we have to go on.
