Joseph Gary "Mr. G." Galatioto

Joseph Gary Galatioto, Mr. "G", age 71, died suddenly on January 24, 2013, at his winter home in Naples, Florida. He was born in St. Clair Shores and grew up in Armada, the son of the late Sam and Rose Marie (Lang) Galatioto. Mr. "G" spent his entire professional career as an educator in the L'Anse Creuse School System. He began as a social studies teacher in 1966. In 1975, Mr. "G" transferred to High School North as the first Student Activities Director and later became an Assistant Principal. In 1990, Mr. "G" was named co-principal of L'Anse Creuse Middle School Central and served at Central until his retirement in 1994. Students and staff said, "To know Mr. G., is to love Mr. G." He leaves an amazing legacy and will always be remembered for his passion for life, learning and fun. After his retirement he temporarily served as the administrator at elementary schools. Clearly, Mr. "G" loved people of all ages. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan (nee Bovenschen); a sister, Carol (Tom) Carlson of Portage, Mich. and a brother, Bob (Elayne) Gale of Berville, Mich. Also surviving are six much loved nieces and nephews. Kellyn Ruthenburg, Tom McFall, Sondra Rader, Keenan Gale, Jodi Richardson and Len Carlson, as well as 15 grand-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 1 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 57 Southbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens, MI 48045. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the L'Anse Creuse Educational Foundation, % Harry L. Wheeler Community Center and Administration Office, 24076 F.V. Pankow Blvd., Clinton Township, MI, 48036.
