Mr. Leo John Bochenek(1921-2012)

Leo John Bochenek, age 90. On March 27, 2012, Our Lord and Savior opened His arms to embrace Leo and called him home. Dad was born on May 17, 1921 in Ludlow, MA. He leaves his wife Helen after 69 years of wonderful marriage and their ten children, Elaine Censoni (Marino), Diana Prantera, Dr. Vivian Bochenek, Paul (Emma), Ralph (Deborah), Ronald (Karen), Michael (Lenora), Thomas (Tina), Kenneth and Dr. Grace Broecker (Mark). He is survived by 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dad leaves his sister Irene Nowak and brother Alfred Bochenek (Agnes), sisters-in-law Jennie Streit and Sabina Bock. He was preceded in death by parents John and Anna, sister Mary Lewis and brother Donald Bock. Dad served in World War II with the U.S. Army as a surveillance scout and received a Bronze Star. Returning to his wife and first daughter, he found work as a mechanic for the Detroit Transit System. As the family started to grow, he worked and retired from the Detroit Police Department. Dad was a tireless man, and the owner of Champion Painting until retirement again at the age of 72. Dad was a very active parent, grandparent and great-grandparent teaching all his passion for work and also to play. He taught everyone how to fish and swim, and he traveled all over the States, Canada and Mexico. He called Venture Out at Cudjoe Key, FL. as his home for over 35 years, where he enjoyed boating and fishing with friends. He was active in St. Peter's Catholic Church as well as at their condominium association. Dad has touched the lives of so many family members and friends during his lifetime; we will always be blessed from knowing him. Family will receive friends Friday 2-8 p.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road (between Maple and Big Beaver), with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Alan Catholic Church, 2345 Coolidge Hwy., Troy.
