Peter Alan "Pete" Bede

Peter (Pete) Alan Bede, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, coach, and friend of many, died early Monday morning, March 26, 2012 after a 3-1/2 year battle with cancer. Pete died in his home in Warren, Mich., where he was faithfully served by family and friends until he went to be with the Lord. Pete was 52 years old. Pete was born to Thomas and Margery Bede in Minneapolis, Minn. on December, 15, 1959. He spent his childhood in Edina, before moving with his family to Norman, Okla., where he played football at Norman High School. Prior to his senior year of High School, Pete moved with his family to Frankenmuth, Mich. where he played football for Frankenmuth High School. Following high school he went on to play college football at Saginaw Valley where he was rookie of the year. He was a standout player throughout his football career. Through a close college friend, he met Sandy, the love of his life who he often referred to as his soulmate. They were married October 6, 1984 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fraser, Mich. They resided in Norman, Okla. until August 1985 and then returned to raise their family in Warren, Mich. where they have been residents for the past 26 years. Pete was a faithful, long time member of Hope Lutheran Church where he served the Lord in many capacities, including former president of the congregation and council member; Men's Ministry; Via de Christo; MCREST; and assisted with serving monthly meals for senior citizens. All of their children were baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Pete was a lifetime member and past president of the Eastpointe Lion's Club where he developed many lasting friendships and took a very active role as recently as three weeks ago. Pete worked most of his adult life in sales, where his outgoing personality served him well. In Michigan he worked at Adams Electronics, Mobile Communications, management at Home Depot, and most recently at English Gardens, where his coworkers became like family and he worked until February when his health no longer allowed him to work. Pete had a passion for football and continued to be involved after his playing days by serving as a football coach and mentor for Lincoln High School, Middle School and the Warren Jets. Pete also coached softball for Lincoln High School and softball and baseball for Center Line Parks and Rec. He especially enjoyed coaching the teams his children were a part of. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandra (Smith); daughter Jaimie (Mike) Minko, of Eastpointe; son Joshua and daughter Jackie of the home; mother Margery Bede of Norman, Okla.; brother Steven Bede of Sandstone, Minn.; sister Susan (Stephen) Favors of Norman, Okla.; mother and father-in-law Mardean and W.T. Smith; sister-in-laws Sharon (Glenn) Davies; Deanna (Dennis) Walker; Tina (Mick) Balanda; nieces and nephews Jason, Zachary and Emily Favors; Cindy (Rick) Zwicker, and Kathy Davies; Dusty, Tyler, Alyssa and Lindsey Walker; Mick, David and Lisa Balanda; grand nephews Andre and Devon Favors. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Bede. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29th, 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church; 32400 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093. Service will be preceded by visitation at the church beginning at 3 p.m. Memorials can be made payable to Hope Lutheran Church to the Bede Memorial.
