Obituary Condolences

THOEL, ARNOLD WALTER Age 86, of Macomb Township, died at his home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Arnold was born on August 4, 1927 in Mount Clemens a son of Walter and Edna (nee Schmidt) Thoel. On August 6, 1949, he married Evelyn Mountford in Mount Clemens. Arnold was a veteran of the United States Navy. During World War II he served as a fire controlman aboard the U.S.S. Iowa, which was the flagship of Battleship Division 7. In December of 1990, Arnold retired from Macomb Township after working for 30 years as the Township's building inspector. He worked in the lumberyard at Cody McMahon in Mount Clemens; held many offices for the Macomb Township Lions Club; was President of the Chippewa Valley School Board; was on the zoning board for Macomb Township; and sold papers for Good Fellows. Arnold enjoyed going out to eat, watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers; and more than anything, spending time with his grandchildren. He had a very sharp, keen mind and loved talking about past events. Arnold was a family man above anything else and they were always first in his life. Arnold is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Jim, Karen Darter, Janet Brown, Cheryl Thoel, David (Andrea) and Anne (Joe Lawless) Page; grandchildren, David (Tammy), Nathan, Tara, Katie (Loren), Steven, Michael, Jessica, Samantha, Matthew and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Gavin; siblings, Gladys DeMan, Kenneth (Mary Lou), Shirley Robertroy and Alvin (Carol); brothers-in-law, Dimitri Strilany and George Miller; and sisters-in-law, Ellen, Dorothy, Marion and Carol. Arnold was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Edna Thoel; and siblings, Richard, Walter, Irene, Edwin, Irma, Gerald, Geraldine, Eleanor, Marvin, Joyce and Robert. A Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Hauss Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb (north of 21 Mile Road). Burial will be in Clinton Grove Cemetery, Clinton Township. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday and 1-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
