Catherine "Cathy" Jawor Obituary
Catherine "Cathy" Jawor, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2012 in her sleep. Cathy was born and raised in West Virginia where her father immigrated to America from Italy and became a coal miner. After her mother passed away, Cathy helped care for her brothers and sisters until she moved to Detroit to become one of the original "Rosie the Riveters." In Detroit, Cathy met and married Chet Jawor. In 1955 they opened Jawor's Golf Center in Roseville, Michigan. Cathy was a very generous person and frequently offered financial help and support to her siblings and their children in times of need. When necessary, she contributed to her sibling's children and their children's higher education. Anytime she got word that her niece's or nephew's children were going to travel out of the country, she would slip them extra money and encourage them to have fun and enjoy the experience. She always wanted the children to experience the best and was always glad to see them when they visited. Cathy loved traveling and was a world traveler with the Nomads group. Her many trips included African safaris and visits to India, China, Japan, Iceland, Europe, boat trips along the Amazon River and white water rafting in Colorado. The years following her travels were spent with her son, Don; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and her many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, their children and friends. Per Cathy's wishes no formal services will be held. However family and friends are invited to come and share memories at an informal gathering Saturday, June 30 from 11-1 p.m. at Jawor's Golf Center, 3900 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville, Michigan.
