James Edward Foster Obituary
Age 80, longtime resident of Harrison Township, died peacefully October 18, 2013 in his son's home surrounded by the love of his family. Jim was born in East Detroit on May 28, 1933, son of the late James and Margaret (Hamilton) Foster. He graduated from Fraser High School in 1950. Jim served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He lived his whole life in the Macomb County area, the last 38 years in Harrison Township, while spending a few winters in Indian Shores, Florida during retirement. Jim married his beloved wife, Nancy on September 7, 1973 in Roseville. He and his brother, Neil, were proprietors of two Shell service stations in the 1960's (Jefferson and Violet in St. Clair Shores and 14 and Gratiot in Roseville) and then of the Spruce Inn Bar of Mount Clemens from 1970 through 1992. Through these businesses, his big family, lots of friends and ties with the community, thousands of people were lucky enough to have known him. Jim made the best spaghetti as a member of the Mount Clemens Goodfellows, famous chili that he sold at the Spruce Inn, and unmatched soup that he made for his family. He loved tending to his big garden, going fishing, listening to old country music and drinking beer with friends. Jim was especially proud of his Scottish heritage, and was satisfied to have visited the town of California, Scotland where his mother was born. Jim is the beloved husband of the late Nancy; dearest father of Sue, Cherie and James (Christine) Foster; cherished grandfather of Rebekah, Hannah and Eve; loving brother of Nancy Jolly, Charles (Linda), Mike (Judy), and Rick (Johnnie) Foster and the late Donald and Dennis Daly, Joanne Foster and Neil (Shirley) Foster. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and former wife, Patricia Coffey. Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, on Tuesday 4-9 p.m., Wednesday 2-9 p.m. and Thursday 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Cadillac Memorial Gardens with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Mount Clemens Goodfellows (No Child Without a Christmas) appreciated, c/o P.O. Box 421, Mount Clemens, MI 48046. 586-468-7814. Share memories at:
