Mr. Leonard W. Albrecht


1915 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
Leonard W. Albrecht, age 98, of Chesterfield Township, died February 8, 2013. He was born January 9, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Fred H. Albrecht and Ida Dargel Albrecht. The family moved to Roseville across from what is now Eastgate Shopping Center, but was then the old Packard Aviation Field. He attended the Burton High School and was also a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He worked for a short time at the Mount Clemens Pottery packing dishes for S.S. Kresge before leaving to enlist in the military prior to Pearl Harbor. He saw service in the Pacific area as a Crypyp Specialist and many state side bases. He also had duty assignments at NATO HQS OSLO, Norway, Goose Bay, Labrador, and the DEW line in Canada. He married his beloved wife Laurette on January 9, 1943 at Grace Lutheran Church, Highland Park Michigan, and God gave them 57 wonderful years of life together before she left in 2001, for a better home with Jesus. He retired from the military after 20 years of service at Shaw AFB, South Caroline, following which he worked for the Joint Military Services Credit Union at Selfridge AFB, retiring from that organization after 20 years. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Albrecht was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and served many years on the Board of Elders. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 62657 North Avenue at 29 Mile Road, Ray Township with the Rev. Edward Steeh, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Fund. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Will & Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 NB Gratiot Avenue, Mt. Clemens, Michigan and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 prior to the service at the church. Share memories at willandschwarzkoff.com
