Irene H. Simons Obituary
Age 89, died February 9, 2014. Formerly of St. Clair, Irene spent most of her life in St. Clair Shores. She was born August 19, 1924 in Detroit to late John and Julia Nowicki. Irene was the former owner of the Good n' Plenty Resale Shop in Warren for many years with her daughters, Pamela and Melodee. Irene was a masterful seamstress, and kept all inventory clean, ironed, and tailored. She was a stickler for properly pressed clothing and shined shoes. In her younger years, Irene and her late husband Bob, were consistent competitors at the Mt. Clemens Speedway. They specialized in racing Triumphs and MG's. She always took pride in getting dazzled up; particularly when it included a night of dancing. Irene danced until the end, and was also a proud member of The Blue Water Polka Club. Her children and grandchildren will miss the talks with grandma, which often took place over gummy bears and tea. The infamous Sunday dinners at her home, where everyone was welcome, will be remembered by many. She was the matriarch, the voice of reason, and the strength of our family. Irene will live on for generations to come and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her. We will never forget your smile. Irene is survived by her children, Pamela (Gary) Adams, Melodee (Bob) Wieske, Robin Simons, Kelly (Barry) Kinsey. Beloved grandmother of Heather (John) Kaptrosky, Brent (Nicole) O'Hara, Brandee (Scott) Gardiner, Jonathon (Michelle) O'Hara, Alexandra (Michael) Giangrande, Jeffrey Jaszczak, Chloe, Nick, and Sam Kinsey. Loving great-grandmother of Klaire, Jack, Kate, Olivia, Sophia, Teague, Connor, McKenzee, and Henry. Special friend and companion Mike Levko. Cherished sister of Dorothy Williams, Ted (Nancy) Nowicki, and July (Don) Wilson. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Tammy and brother, John Nowicki. Visitation Friday from 2-9 p.m. at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Darrell Roman officiating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Clair. Donations are suggested to Kids in Distress, 1114 S. 7th St., St. Clair, MI 48079.
