Arlene Florence (Nigl) Hartman Obituary
Arlene Florence Hartman (nee Nigl), age 93, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the home of her daughter and surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 4, 1919 in Standish, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Elsa (Haas) Nigl. She married her World War II hero, Leonard Hartman, on September 27, 1947 in Standish and they moved to the Detroit area for automotive work. She is survived by her daughter Marion (Ed) Grigg of Novi; her daughter-in-law Doris (Heipel) Hartman of Northville; and four grandchildren she adored, Trevor and Lauren Grigg, Matthew and Emily Hartman. She was preceded in death by Leonard on October 15, 2001, her brother Mervin Nigl on June 19, 2003 and her son, Roger Hartman, on November 29, 2009. Arlene was a member of East Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Detroit before transferring to St. John Lutheran Church in Fraser, where she actively participated in Bible Study, the 55+ Club and many card clubs. She and Leonard enjoyed many years of traveling with the Sterling Heights Senior Center and the church groups. Arlene also enjoyed her many wonderful friends in the Red Hat Society and her caring neighbors. She loved all her friends and was loved in return. She loved gardening and had a special knack for growing beautiful roses, as seen in her garden. She also had a dear love for her recent addition of a companion, her little Yorkie named Ferguson. Arlene was a very caring lady that dedicated her life to her family and church and will be missed by all. She courageously fought a long battle with leukemia and has now gone to join the Lord and her many, many family and friends that have gone before her and have waited so patiently for her. The family would also like to thank Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care for the wonderful care they gave to Arlene. Viewing will be held in Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Friday 3-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser on Saturday at 10 a.m. with additional visitation at 9:30 a.m. Memorials are welcome to St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser, Michigan and Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care.
