Donald E. Holstein, beloved husband of Helen Holstein for 47 years and brother to Lois Ruth and Jean Knapp (deceased), passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 85 years of age. He was a long time resident of St. Clair Shores and the east side. He was an uncle to 18 nieces and nephews from the Ruth, Littmann and Knapp families. Don served his country in the Army during the occupation of Germany after WWII. Upon return from Europe, Don enrolled at Michigan Tech and earned an Engineering degree in Metallurgy. He went on to build two successful companies "Holstein Engineering" and "Thermal Processing". Along with being a successful businessman, Don was a person of many interests, the foremost of which, included racing his sailboats in the Port Huron to Mackinac and Chicago to Mackinac race for years. (Lovingly known by his crew as "Captain Jolly"). He and his wife Helen were members of the Great Lakes Yacht Club. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Don and Helen were also founders and CO-CEOs of the Wolverine Hunt and Fish Club. He was the architect and builder of the best ever hunting lodge in the U.P. Don was many things, but never, never boring. He lived well and laughed well and most of all loved well. He will be greatly missed for a long, long time.
