Ruth Coley Obituary

Ruth Coley
July 3, 1916 - October 2, 2013
Cochran, GA- Ruth Coley, 97, of Cochran, Ga. and Leesburg, Ga., died Wednesday, October 2 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5 at First United Methodist Church in Cochran, Ga., at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church social hall.
Born July 3, 1916 in Milledgeville, Georgia, "Miss Ruth" was the daughter of the late Annie Bell Russell Butts and the late James Wallace Butts, Sr. She was a retired teacher, beginning her career in Kite, Ga. and having taught at Cochran High School in Cochran for much of her career. A graduate of Georgia College in Milledgeville, Mrs. Coley was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of Eastern Star and a former member the Cochran Woman's Club and United Methodist Women. She spent her later years as a resident of Green Meadows PCH and Lee County Health Care Center.
Mrs. Coley was preceded in death by her husband, John Appleton Drake Coley, Jr. and a brother, James Wallace Butts, Jr. These relationships left her with a passion for Georgia Farm Bureau and the University of Georgia Bulldogs football program. She and her husband were a former Georgia Farm Family of the Year.
She is survived by daughters, Anita Coley Rose (John) of Richmond, Virginia; Deborah Coley Reinke (Gary) of Louiseville, Kentucky; and Constance C. Grebel (Richard) of Leesburg, Ga.; son John Appleton Drake Coley, III (Linda) of Byron, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to First United Methodist Church in Cochran. The family is at the home of Richard and Coni Grebel in Leesburg.
Fisher Funeral Home of Cochran has charge of arrangements.

Joe, Debbie and Family, So sorry for the loss of your Mother. We lost a good saint when the Lord took her home. I just found out about it (PM) Sat., otherwise I would have been at the funeral. I pray that the Lord will strengthen you in the days and weeks ahead! Sue (Holland) McClendon

Dear Coni and family. It breaks my heart that we can't be with you all. Ruth made me feel so special when I was a little girl, making me pretty outfits and just being kind. We always enjoyed her visits in our home. Know that we care and you are in our prayers.
