David Bowden Obituary

David Morrow Bowden
Oct. 2,1970 - Feb. 27, 2013
Athens, GA- David Morrow Bowden, age 42, of Athens passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. He was born in Decatur, Alabama, on October 2, 1970, and moved to Athens with his family shortly thereafter. David grew up in Athens and graduated from Cedar Shoals High School in 1989 where he was a member of the Cross Country team. He later graduated from the University of Georgia with an A.B. in History.
David was a life-long member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where his Father served as the Minister. He was very active with the youth ministry and youth athletic program for many years. Upon completion of his A.B. degree at UGA, David served as a Volunteer of Christian Mission in Bridgewater, England. He then served on the denominational staff for the Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, followed by serving as the Youth Director of the First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. David then moved to Atlanta where he worked as a Talent Relations Manager for the WCW. During this time he met and later married Lindsey Sullivan, and they moved to Athens. David continued to serve with his wife Lindsey at Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a youth group leader. At this time he was employed at Athens Regional Hospital. David later earned his M.B.A. from the UGA Terry College of Business. Then David and Lindsey moved to Memphis, Tennessee where David and his business partner were owner/operators of several Zaxby's franchises located in Northern Mississippi and NW Arkansas. During their stay in Memphis, David and Lindsey were blessed with the birth of two children: Thomas, age 4 and Natalie, age 1. While continuing to operate the Zaxby's franchises, David and his family returned home to Athens to live. He resumed active membership in Covenant Presbyterian Church and served on the Stewardship and Finance Ministry Team as well as the Youth Renovation Team.
David is survived by his parents, Jim and Jere Bowden, wife Lindsey, son Thomas, daughter Natalie, brothers Bill (Eydie), Mike (Sandra), Steve (Deedee) and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Athens on Monday, March 4 with the Reverend Mark Harper and the Reverend Beecher Matthes officiating. There will be a visitation and reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions in memory of David be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1065 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605, or the Montreat Conference Center Campground, Montreat, North Carolina.

Dear Bowden Family,
I have such fond memories of David. We went to Cedar together, and I also got to know him further through youth group at Covenant. He was a very special person whose light shined bright. His smile and laugh were infectious. Your family and all who knew and loved David are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Bowden Family,

I was shocked and saddened to learn that David is no longer with us. As boys, David and I spent many years enjoying youth group together at Covenant. I remember going to our youth retreats at Hard Labor Creek and worshipping around the camp fire, singing hymns. Leadership and organization were natural gifts David possessed, even when he was young. It is clear he used those talents the rest of his life. He was always smiling, always happy, and a pleasure to be around. He united those around him. We are heartbroken that he has left this world too early, but rest assured he will never be forgotten. Wishing you peace that passes understanding at this difficult time.

I met Dave in 1987 at Montreat....he introduced himself as "MadDog". He made Montreat even better than it already was. I've thought of him through the years even though we never spoke after that week...I was really surprised to open the paper here in Little Rock and see his picture. Such a small world, who now is less one bright soul. RIP MadDog.

Lindsey and Bowden family, my condolences to you. Dave was a great guy and friend and will be missed by everyone he has met and touched. One of the many fond memories I have of Dave was running the Peachtree Road Race with him. He ran and pushed me the entire run and went at my pace (slow). And many more memories will at WCW.

David's presence will be missed by us all but his spirit lives on through Lindsay, their kids and the remarkable Bowden family. We have been blessed to know all of the Bowdens for over 40 years and fortunate to call you our friends. Please know that you are constantly in our thoughts and we pray that your strong faith and the love of all the people you have touched will come back to you to provide comfort and peace.

Since the Fall of 1961 the Bowdens have been an integral part of our lives. E were together as classmates at Columbia Seminary, then lived near each other in north Alabama, then for years in Athens, and then everywhere we moved while they stayed put in Athens. They have been family to all of us, and we grieve with them. We've known David since he was born, so we feel his loss deeply. Words are inadequate at such a time, so we commend you all into God's loving care as we do David. "The peace of Christ be with you all.". Peggy and John Roark (for all the Roarks)

Dear Bowden Family,
Dave and I worked together on the HomeRun 5k fundraising event for Habitat for Humanity in Desoto County, MS. His quiet, confident, optimism was contagious. His commitment to the community and to his employees was exceeded only by his commitment to his family. We ran side by side together in last year's race in October, talking about business and family and ideas for personal growth. He was an inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

His spirit is now eternal and we are all better for having known him.

We are holding all of you up in prayer.

Dave,
I don't even know where to start. For the 5 years I have been at Zaxby's, you have always been a great person to me. You are someone that I looked up too. Whenever I might had something going on, I know for sure I could come to you for answers. I have to say you are someone I will never forget. Your legacy at Zaxby's will continue to go on. I remember when I first became an assistant manager and I told you; I want to make you proud and you looked at me and said, Make yourself proud first. You have made a great impact on so many of us at Zaxby's. It will not be the same without you, DB. I know you want one thing for us is to continue to work hard. Dave, you will be truly missed.
