Christine Barnes Fields was born March 4, 1923 in Macon, Georgia the oldest of three children to William T. Barnes, Sr. and Hattie Florence (Davis) Barnes. She graduated from Unionville Elementary and Ballard Normal High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Paine College. At Paine she met and later married Andrew S. Fields who preceded her in death. Together they shared many happy and adventurous years. Christine received additional education from Fort Valley State University and New York University
. A retired educator, she taught in Zebulon, Georgia and the Bibb County School System spending the majority of her time at Ada Banks Elementary.
Christine was a lifelong member of Bethel CME Church. She was a devoted Christian, accomplished pianist and songstress frequently appearing with her family on local radio stations in her early years. She was a founding member of the Dramatics Board (Board of Social Concerns). Through this Board she created the Christmas Extravaganza and initiated several other ongoing church events. Additionally, she established the first group of Bethel CME acolytes. Christine was a master crafter and amateur artist with especially unique talents in ceramics. Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Annie Barnes Hill, and her husband. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, William "Bill" T. Barnes, Jr., two sisters in laws Sheila Sheftall Barnes and Andrena Fields Murray, beloved God Sons Wm. "Tommy" Barnes and Darryl Causey, nieces Diane Hill, Anita Hill, Carole Barnes Reese (Bernard), Willette Hill-Chambliss, special cousin Geneva Davis Causey and a host of more nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and former students throughout the nation.
