Macon, GA- Harris DeVon Williams, 85, of Macon, GA passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. A memorial service will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church this Thursday at 11 A.M. with Reverend Steve Waldorf officiating.
Harris was born in Lyons, GA to the late William O. Williams and Maria Harris Williams. He lived most of his life in Macon, GA, graduating from Lanier High School. He attended Mercer University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He served in the United States Navy at the close of World War II, after returning he graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He was a CPA and partner of Butler, Williams and Wyche.
Harris was a charter member of Riverside United Methodist Church. He was very active for many years serving on the administrative board, and was active with the MYF Program. He was a member of the Beatty-Gray Sunday School Class. He was also active with numerous local Christian organizations, clubs such as the Macon Touchdown Club, and most of all loved spending time on his farm with his family and animals.
He was preceded by his loving wife, Bettye Lamb Williams; his brother, Dr. W.O. Williams; and sisters, Sarah Nutting and Lalia Maxwell. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Jack Thompson; his granddaughters, Britton Edwards (Neil) and Nancy Thompson; and great-grandson Nathan Harris Edwards.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204, or the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
