Alvin B. Gibson
Perry, GA- Alvin B. Gibson, 92, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014, after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry. Interment with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in his name to First Baptist Church of Perry, 1105 Main Street, Perry, Georgia 31069.
Mr. Gibson was a native of Crawford County and had lived in Perry for 64 years. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for one year doing extensive work at the Macon Ocmulgee National Monument. He proudly served our country for four years in the U. S. Army during World War II. Three years were spent in the mountains of India protecting the construction of the China/Burma Road. Mr. Gibson was an anti-aircraft gunner in the 464th Battery C. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry for 62 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Perry. Mr. Gibson retired from Penn Dixie/Medusa Cement Company after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert Gibson and Delia Aultman Gibson; his loving wife of 60 years, Lois Sherfield Gibson of Spencer, Indiana; two sisters; and five brothers.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Gibson are his daughter, Bonnie Bozeman (Bert); two sons, Michael Gibson and John Robert Gibson (Lorie); and six grandchildren, Angie Bozeman, Natalie Bozeman, Blake Bozeman, Bruce Gibson (Amanda), Megan Gibson, and Jared Gibson.
