Betty Parkinson Obituary

Betty Cagle Parkinson -PERRY - Betty Cagle Parkinson, 84, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 28, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Perry with Reverend Jenny Jackson-Adams and Reverend Jamie Powell officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. The family suggests contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, Georgia 31069. -Born in Etowah, Tennessee, Mrs. Parkinson was the daughter of the late Coker Eugene and Opal Alligood Cagle. A homemaker, she had lived in Perry over 50 years. She was an excellent seamstress and delighted in designing and making many of her daughters' clothes. Mrs. Parkinson attended Tift College, and was in the Real Estate business in Perry for about 10 years. She was a long-time, very dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Perry. Through the years, her involvement ranged from leading the GA's (Girls in Action) to answering the office telephone to volunteering with AWANA in more recent years. Mrs. Parkinson loved music, especially piano. She enjoyed playing the piano and was active in the Duet Club for many years. Mrs. Parkinson was a member of the Tawasi Club of Perry, the Muses Book Club, the Round Table Book Club, and the Precepts Bible Study. For years, she and her husband owned a home in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, to where they would travel with several children in the car at one time. Many wonderful memories were made there with those special children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. "Nana" was a fun grandmother who played games with and cooked for them all when they came to visit. Her greatest love was her family, with whom she treasured every moment spent. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, J. Don Parkinson. -The legacies she leaves behind are her children, Deborah Walker (David, Sr.) of Perry, and Luelle Stubbs (Wayne) of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren, David Walker, Jr., Mary Katherine Walker, Don Walker (Colleen), Ben Stubbs (Jen), and James Stubbs; and three great-grandchildren. -Friends are invited to leave condolences for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
