Etholyn B. Humphrey
May 7, 1915 - July 29, 2013
Ft. Myers, FL- Etholyn Barry Humphrey passed away on July 29, 2013. She was born in Dooly County, Georgia to Frank and Farrie Barry, the middle of five children. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James T Humphrey, Sr. Etholyn and James resided in Warner Robins, Georgia for 56 years before moving to Fort Myers, Florida in April 2000. While in Warner Robins, their home was always inviting from the beautiful flowers outside to the warmth and welcome found inside the home. She was a member of the Morning Garden Club of Warner Robins and enjoyed creating beautiful flower arrangements. Etholyn was the consummate southern lady, opening her home to friends and family alike.
Our mother's first love was the Lord, and she demonstrated His love daily through her interactions with others. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warner Robins, then in Fort Myers. She loved studying the Bible and enjoyed sharing what she gleaned by teaching Sunday School. She taught an adult ladies' class, appropriately called the Gleaners, for 35 years. When she moved to Fort Myers she attended devotions at Grand Court, eventually leading them for a number of years. She was also a rotating Sunday School teacher for her adult class in Fort Myers. We who heard her teach knew the depths of her faith. She was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a lady of warmth, wit and wisdom. She enjoyed every day of her life and loved each day to the fullest.
Etholyn's pride and joy was her family. We were raised in a loving home that she and our dad created. She radiated love, generosity, patience and joy. She helped to make us a close and loving family who enjoy being together whenever possible.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, son, James T. Humphrey, Jr., wife Nancy; her daughter, Elaine Humphrey Monn, husband Jim; four grandchildren, Charles Monn, Jennifer Humphrey Keaton, husband Skip; Amy Johnston, husband Rick; and Casey LaGrave; six great grandchildren, Lee Keaton, Alyssa Keaton, Tony Keaton, Matthew Johnston, Samantha Johnston, and Daulton LaGrave. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, the family cousins, each all dear to her. A special thank you to Denise Scanlon who was her friend and caregiver for over ten years.
We will all miss her so much. She has left us a legacy of her love and her faith.
