Roberta, GA- Gloria (Dimples) Bowden Carroll Mashburn, age 84, passed away Tuesday afternoon at her residence.
Gloria was born in Peach County to the late Walter Benson Bowden and Sophie Ann Schofill Bowden. Gloria graduated from Fort Valley High School and GAB Business School. She married the late John William (Josh) Carroll in 1949. They were married for nineteen years until his untimely death. She married the late Edward R. Mashburn in 1973 and they were married for thirteen years until his untimely death. Gloria was a homemaker while her children were young, operated the family poultry business, then worked at the USDA-ASCS offices in Monroe, Peach and Crawford counties. After her retirement she was a substitute teacher at the Crawford County Schools. Gloria was a devoted mother and grandmother who always loved to watch "The Stories" and later in life enjoyed word search puzzles.
Gloria is preceded in death by her brothers, Herschel Bowden and Rufus Bowden, sisters Zona McCary and Joyce Whitehead. She is survived by her four children, Nadine Valdes (Chris) of Roberta, Melanie Reynolds (Randy) of Roberta, Randy Carroll of Byron and Romaine Munoz (Roberto) of Miami, Florida. Gloria also leaves behind eight grandchildren Thad Carroll (Beth), Aron Renfroe (Steve), Jessica Holliday (Jason), Becky Wilcox (Dusty), Tico Munoz, Camille Munoz, Bryan Reynolds and Lacy Reynolds, six great-grandchildren Peyton, Caleb and Noah Renfroe, Grace Wilcox, Keegan Norcom and Claudia Heffe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends at McLeighton Funeral Service in Roberta on Thursday from 6-8 pm. Graveside services will be held at 4 pm on Friday at Roberta City cemetery.
