Macon, GA- Joel C. Brooks, 74, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, October 25, 2013, in the Chapel of Rooks Funeral Home , 109 West White Road in Byron, with Perry Adams officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Rooks Funeral Home in Byron.
Born in Macon to the late Chester E. and Thelma Gordon Brooks, Mr. Brooks was retired from Armstrong World Industries, served in the Marines, and attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Byron. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan, and local stock car racer.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gaile Brooks; their children, Danny Brooks (Kitty) of Byron, Terry Taylor (Paul) of Lizella, and Beth Taylor (Doyle); grandchildren, Chrissy Brooks, Megan Brooks, Josh Brooks, Wade Taylor (Kristin), Rebecca Barton (John), Brittany Perkins (Corey), and Alan Bradshaw; great grandchildren, Karson, Tyler, Dylan, Rylee, Austin, Konar, Zoe, Georgia, Cheyann, Gavin, and Sierra; brothers and sister, Bobby Brooks (Wyvetta), Charles Brooks (Melba), Robert Brooks (Glenda), Glenda Jackson (Charles), and Wayne Brooks (Flo); mother in law, Elsie Smith; and his grand dog, Brandy. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Brooks.
