Sylvester, GA- James W. Howard, Sr., 84, joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will meet friends following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Sylvester, Lottie Moon or Annie Armstrong Missions, 207 N. Isabella St., Sylvester GA 31791.
Rev. Howard, son of the late Willis Edgar Howard, Sr. and Maggie Dean Samuels Howard, was born in Waynesboro, Georgia. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, FL. Fulfilling his call to the Ministry, Rev. Howard served as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Macon, First Baptist Church Warrenton, West Highland Baptist Church Macon, First Baptist Church Colquitt, Eastern Heights Baptist Church Columbus and First Baptist Church Baxley. He then served with the Georgia Baptist Convention Stewardship & Annuity Department retiring February 29, 1996. Rev. Howard was a member of First Baptist Church Sylvester.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Eutonah Lea SerVoss Howard of Sylvester; his children, Deana Ruth May of Burnsville, NC, Monabeth H. (Glenn) Parkman of Sylvester, Jimmy (Donna) Howard of Baxley, Mark Howard of Sylvester, Jay (Ellen) Howard of Waycross; eight beloved grandchildren, Travis May, Dana May, Leanna May, Leigh P. Vickery, Render Parkman, Glenna Ruth P. Carlisle, Walt Howard and Lauren Howard; three great grandchildren, Logan, Maggie and Luke.
