Elbert Gene Voss
Perry, GA- Elbert Gene Voss, 85, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014, after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will be today, Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to First Christian Church, P. O. Box 1512, Perry, Georgia 31069.
Mr. Voss was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to the late Elbert and Lena Parker Voss. He was a 1947 graduate of Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, Florida. Mr. Voss proudly served our country in the U. S. Air Force. As a hobby, he enjoyed flying a J3 Piper Cub and was a member of the EAA group in Winter Haven. He had lived in Perry since 1976, having moved from Winter Haven, Florida. He worked in machine maintenance at Continental Can Company for 37 years. He was a member of First Christian Church. A professional musician, Mr. Voss played guitar and bass, was featured on many local radio and television shows, and played many road shows with Grand Old Opry stars. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Voss.
Left to cherish the memories of "Papa" are his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Roxie Ann Brown Voss of Perry; his children, Laura Jean Voss of Macon, Richard Lynn Voss (Kelly) of Perry, and Larry Voss (Shannon) of Dawsonville; his grandchildren Taylor Voss, Madison Voss, Austin Voss, Parker Voss, and Sanders Voss; and his sister-in-law, Jeanette Voss of Perry.
