Sarah F. Newby
Cochran, GA- Funeral services for Sarah F. Newby, 95, of Cochran, who died Sunday, March 23, 2014, in the Bleckley Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family and friends, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Newby was a life long resident of Twiggs County, the daughter of the late Norman and Daisy Sauls Floyd and the widow of Olin P. Newby. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. Mrs. Newby enjoyed quilting and was a seamstress. She worked at L&H Shirt Factory and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Almeida Floyd; five brothers, Wilson Floyd, Stant Floyd, John S. Floyd, William Floyd, M.J. Floyd, a granddaughter Tonya Ann Bryant and a great-grandson Timothy Ronny Williams.
Survivors include: six children, Olin C. (Rosemary) Newby of Washington, GA, Sara Ann (Wilbur "Tilly") Bryant of Cochran, Reba (Johnny) Lynn of Irwinton, Janice (Harrell) Floyd of Cochran, Olene (Ricky) Lynn of Jeffersonville and Barbara (Otto) Myers of Byron. 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive.
The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund and to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family wishes to thank her sitters, Nedra Myer, Kay Stephens and Wylene Hightower.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
