Paul Slappey
Macon, GA- Paul Slappey, 82, of 780 Claburn Road, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00AM at Stone Edge Church, 5659 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA 31210, with the Reverend Clint Jett and Reverend Lewis Stover officiating. Burial will be on Saturday at 3:00PM (CST) at Garden Hill Cemetery, Opelika, Alabama. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity or Macon Rescue Mission, 774 Hazel Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.
Mr. Slappey, a native of Opelika, Alabama, was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest D. Slappey, Sr. and Louvinia M. Culpepper Slappey and his son, Paul Reese Slappey. He was a member of Stone Edge Church and a University of Alabama fan since the 1940's. He retired from P.P.G Glass Industry after 25 years then he was the owner and operator of Glass Service Center of Macon. Mr. Slappey was a well-known business man in the glass industry. He was a family man and a man of character, honest, unselfish and thankful for what God had blessed him with. He was a "working man" up until his death. Mr. Slappey loved people and had an exceptional memory. He always had a "good story" to tell you whether be it funny or about football. He loved to laugh and make you laugh and when he relaxed he loved watching the birds and working in the yard. He will be missed by us all and has left a lasting imprint upon each of us and if you ever met Paul Slappey you would never forget him.
Mr. Slappey is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Eva Evans Slappey of Macon; children, Vickie Jean Glisson (Ricky), Mary Catherine Lenderman (Raymond), and Cindy Hayes (Ricky); adopted son, Todd Evans (Monica); daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Slappey (Charles Crawley); thirteen grandchildren, Nicholas (Amy) Gibson, Katie Gibson, Melissa (Kevin) Borders, Ashley (Jonathan) Long, Joy (Michael) McInvale, Ricky Scott Glisson, Jr., Nichole (Brian) Wealot, Matthew (RaeAnne) Lenderman, Geoffrey Paul (Valerie) Lenderman, Ricky (Codi) Hayes, Ryan Hayes, Jessie Evans, and Aaron Evans; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Madison, Annie, Carsen, Peyton, Keegan, Brianna, Tyler, Ellie, Corey, Hannah, Hunter, Brooklynn, Bailey, Aidan and Ansley; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Parrish (Jim) and Dorothy Evans; brothers-in-law, James Evans (Doris) and Philip (Babe) Evans; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
