A service celebrating her life will be on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive Macon, Georgia 31204
Her body will lie in state for two hours prior to the service. Rev. Clinton Fields, Rev. Charles Hanson and Rev. Paul Chapman will be presiding.
Marguerite has an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. A consummate mother and homemaker, Marguerite was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Her vocation was childcare with Rachel, Steve, Justin, Mallory, Taylor and Mattie Pooh to attest to the proficiency of this mission. She was a self-taught seamstress and achieved many craft skills with crochet being her specialty. Her home was beautifully and amazingly decorated with discarded treasures she eagerly sought and selected from local thrift stores, Goodwill, and yard sales. She had a special talent for finding the perfect pieces, arranging them, and restoring them with love, which intricately weaved beauty and purpose throughout her home. She enjoyed playing Dominoes with the ladies of Grace Pointe Church and attending the Church of God of Prophecy brought additional joy into her life, especially the Senior Bible Study. The influence of her pastor, Reverend Clinton Fields, began when he was a young boy who was at that time known by the name of Bobby Spikes and is her first cousin. She was grateful for the opportunity to be ministered to by her cousin.
In addition to her parents her infant brother and sister predeceased Marguerite.
Marguerite is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Copeland Howard Hammond: two sons, William Copeland Hammond, Lizella and James Howard Hammond (Teresa), Lizella; two daughters, Brenda Chapman (Paul) Fort Valley and Cathy Steele, Byron; one sister, Jeanette Bryant, Waycross. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jocko Hammond, Casey Hammond, Aron Hammond, Jaana Chapman, Kayla Chapman and Rachel Lossiah; three great grandchildren, Solin, Valen, and Ava Hammond.
