Macon, Georgia- Jerry Lee Bowden, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his beloved hunting camp the "Bonderosa", in Macon, GA. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. He formerly resided in Birmingham, Al. and Lawrenceville, GA. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Union Chapel Evangelistic Church 5500 Marion Road Macon, Ga. 31217. Rev. Billy Lowe will Officiate.
Mr. Bowden was born November 21, 1943, in Macon, GA the fourth of five sons of the late William Edward Charles Bowden and Nannie Mae Hattaway Bowden.
He began his much loved piloting career with Bill Woods Beechcraft in September 1969. Jerry was instrumental in the formation of the Bellsouth Corporate Flight Operations as he continued his piloting career rising to the position of their Chief Pilot. Jerry earned Bellsouth's prestigious White Hat award through his leadership and success of the aviation response to Hurricane Andrew. Jerry served businesses as a leader and mentor to dozens of pilots and technicians over the course of his aviation career.
He was a member of Wolihin Lodge # 390 in Macon, Scottish Rite in Birmingham, Alabama and the Zamora Shrine Temple, Irondale, Alabama. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gentleman farming. He also enjoyed amateur radio, KG4KUJ, and watching NASCAR. Mr. Bowden was preceded in death by a brother: William Darrell Bowden.
Mr. Bowden is survived by his wife of thirty-four year: Phyllis Bowden; his beloved son Parker Martin Bowden; brothers and sisters-in-law: Benjamin and Nell Bowden, Ed "Carl" Bowden and Wayne and Paula Bowden; Sister-in-law: Betty Jo Bowden; numerous nieces and nephews and by his beloved grand dog "Smoke."
