Jerry Lee Murphy, 75, of London, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.
He was born April 26, 1937, in Mountville, Ohio, a son of Dale Roland and Edith (Armstrong) Murphy.
Jerry graduated from Dover High School in Dover, Ohio.
He was First Team All-Ohio, played football at Ohio State, and with his brother Jim at East Tennessee State. He was drafted by the NFL Cardinals in 1959.
He served in the Ohio National Guard.
He was a late model stock car driver in the Midwest circuit.
He enjoyed golfing, auto mechanics, vegetable gardening and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Jerry's larger than life presence, storied wisdom and steadfast love enriched all our lives. "Big Jer" will be sorely missed.
He is survived by children, Kellie Murphy (Jeff Larvia) of Brooklyn, New York, Virginia (Jerry) Bridwell of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Scott (Pam) Murphy of Grandview Heights; grandchildren, Tim and Kacey Murphy, Kiera and Liam Bridwell; and special friend, Carol Nafzger of London.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at RADER-LYNCH & DODDS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY SERVICES, 124 E. High St., London, OH 43140. Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Pisgah Church, 8400 Pisgah Church Lane, Glouster, Ohio. Rev. Arnold Van Horn will be officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Glouster. A fellowship will follow at the church.
