WILLIS C. "RED" GODDEN

WEST JEFFERSON — Willis C. "Red" Godden, 87, of West Jefferson, a resident in Sisters on Elm, London, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.

He was born Dec. 10, 1926 in Columbus, the son of the late Carl and Frances Major Godden.

Red grew up in West Jefferson and lived with his grandparents on Middle Pike from the time he was about seven years old.

Red was a retired farmer. Among his life accomplishments are: Fairfield Township Trustee, township clerk, member and trustee of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lilly Chapel, 4-H leader, Madison County Senior Fair Board member, an Army Veteran of World War II, member of the West Jefferson VFW Post No. 7005 and American Legion Post No. 201, volunteer for Jefferson Township Fire Department, member of the West Jefferson Community Association, was a Grand Marshal of the West Jefferson Ox Roast Parade. Red was recently honored as the Grand Marshal of the Trinity United Methodist Church Parade this past fall.

He is survived by his wife, Faith; daughter, Kim (Michael) Duncan of Yellow Springs; son, Bob (Jean) Godden of West Jefferson; grandson, Cory (Melissa) Sickles, Bob Morgan (Amie's husband), all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Josie, Ben and Will Morgan; sister-in-law, Joan Craig of Tucson, Ariz.; nieces, a nephew and many friends.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amie Morgan; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Arthur Farley of Columbus.

Family and friends may call from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson, where Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, with Rev. Jesse Blevins and Rev. Larry Baker officiating. Burial and Graveside Military Service will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, West Jefferson. Military Honors by West Jefferson VFW and American Legion.

The family would like to express a special thanks to all at Sisters on Elm for their loving and compassionate care.
