Anna Mae "Betsy" (Beery) Whitmer, 93, of Longwood at Oakmont, Verona, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at the Longwood Skilled Nursing facility.
She was born on the Beery family near London, Ohio and later lived in Buffalo, New York and Cleveland, Ohio before settling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1965.
Betsy attended Ohio State University where she met the late David Whitmer, her husband of nearly 50 years.
She is survived by two children, Susan (Arthur) Craft of Sewickley, Pennsylvania and Samuel Whitmer of Annapolis, Maryland; two grandchildren, Catherine Craft of Chicago, Illinois and Nicholas Craft of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances.
She lived at Longwood for 20 years and was well know to staff and other residents.
A memorial service at Longwood, 500 Route 909, Verona, Pennsylvania, will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betsy's honor to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation (DAREF), the Longwood Employee Appreciation Fund or a charity of one's choice.
