Catherine J. "Lena" Schaner, 82, of Unionville Center, died Monday morning, April 1, 2013, at Heartland.
She was retired from Ranco after 27 years.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plain City and a member of the VFW Post No. 3268 Women's Auxiliary.
She loved Bingo, bowling, camping with her husband, the tractor pulls in Bowling Green, and the Paul Bunyon Festival in Nelsonville. A very social person, nothing gave her greater joy then spending time with her family and attending her grandkids ballgames.
Lena was born June 16, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Pablo and Damiana Conteras Hernandez.
She was married Feb. 28, 1949, in Scottville, Michigan, to Richard S. Schaner Sr. who preceded her in death May 21, 2002. She was also preceded by a son-in-law, Dale Peterman; brothers, Benito, Pablo, Jesse, Danny, Andrew, and George Hernandez; and sisters, Bermaldina Valero, and Filomenia Mendiola.
She is survived by her children, Bernadette Peterman of Hilliard and her special friend Jim Woolum, Richard S. (Debra) Schaner Jr. of Marysville, Joseph C. (Lynn) Schaner of Mechanicsburg, Robert P. (Angela) Schaner, Theresa M. (Jim) Weese, Karl A. Schaner, all of Unionville Center, Mary C. Headlee of Lakeview and her special friend Dick Pyles; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Chena Alaniz of Lincoln Park, Michigan; brothers, Joe Hernandez of San Antonio, Texas, Greg Hernandez of Ludington, Michigan.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the INGRAM FUNERAL HOME, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, OH 43040. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plain City. The Rev. Patrick Toner will be officiating. Burial will follow at Unionville Center Cemetery. Pall bearers will be her grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ?Darby Monument Committee? in care of the funeral home.
