Galen C. Gregg, 86, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at the Madison House in London, Ohio.
Born in West Jefferson on Feb. 25, 1927.
Galen, the son of Matthew A. and Ethel M. (Roberts) Gregg, was a lifelong resident and farmer of Madison County.
He graduated from West Jefferson High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired after 32 years of service to Battelle Memorial Institute.
He was a 48 year member of Grange, loved farming, hunting camping and traveling. Galen always wore a smile on his face, stood ready to lend a helping hand and easily sought the good in others.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Helen L. (Stambaugh) Gregg and his four daughters Shela McIntier of Mt. Sterling, Jo (Steve) Crawford of Grove City, Gail Gregg of Mt. Sterling and Linda (Jim) Davis of West Jefferson.
Grandchildren include: Shelley (Rich) Morris; Caroline (Larry) Sussman; Galen McIntier; Albert (Kate) McIntier; Lenora (John) Stanford; Tyson (Grace) Kaufman; Nick (Amber) Kaufman; Scott DeVenzio; Sara (Joey) Harris; Tom (Keri) Davis and Valarie (Shawn) McBride.
Great-grandchildren include: Zach Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Jacob Morris, Katie Morris, Gregg Morris, Nicholas Kaufman, Avery Kaufman, Bryan McIntier, Ethan McIntier, Ellie McIntier, Ben McIntier, Hannah McIntier, Brittany and Sam Sussman, Andrew McBride.
Other survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Jean Cook of Marysville; sister-in-law, Angie Stambaugh of California, Virginia Gregg of Washington and June Stambaugh of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pierce Gregg; in-laws, Jeffie R. and Ruth V. Stambaugh; brother-in-laws, Clarence and James Stambaugh; and sister-in-law, Mary Stambaugh.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson. The family will receive visitation prior to the Memorial Service scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at the Harvest Chapel Church in West Jefferson. Graveside services will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Harvest Chapel Church.
