Marian Slattery Cummins, 92, passed away at the Madison Senior Living Community in London, Ohio, on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.
Born Oct. 27, 1920, in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, to William "Herman" Slattery and Martha (Grim) Slattery.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband of almost 71 years, Jim Cummins, on Oct. 22, 2012. Marian also was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tom Slattery; brother-in-law, Paul Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Higgins, and Martha Brock.
Marian is survived by her children, Dr. Tom (Margaret) Cummins, Connie Daniels and Chris (Alana) Cummins; her sister, June Nelson; sister-in-law, Nona Slattery; brother-in-law, Bill Brock; grandchildren, Don Daniels, Tim Cummins, Tammy Guinan, Carrie Mueller, Kelly Thigpen, and Jordan Cummins; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from London High School in 1938, she was first employed in the payroll department at McCord Radiator and later as a receptionist and bookkeeper at London Animal Hospital. In 1981 she retired from the payroll department at the London Correctional Institution.
Marian's favorite occupation was that of a mother and grandmother. She was famous among her family members for her chicken and noodles, chocolate cake with caramel icing, delicious pies, and apple dumplings.
Marian was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and she also belonged to Daughters of Isabella, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and Phi Beta Psi Sorority.
The family will receive friends at St. Patrick's Parish Center, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 62 S. Union St., London, Ohio. Father Mark Ghiloni will be officiating. Interment service will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marian's name to St. Patrick's Building Fund.
