Ralph Dill Smith, 94, of Brooksville, Fla., died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at HPH Hospice, Brooksville, Florida.
He was born July 21, 1918, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Claud H. and Loree Burwell Smith.
He attended London High School and graduated from Mifflin High School.
Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Air Force (8th Army Air Corp) during World War II. He became a B17 Bomber Pilot. He was later discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of E.T.O 100th Bomb Group 349th, "Bloody Hundredth," Air Force Escapees Society, Caterpillar Club, and DAV.
He was a member of Masonic Chandler 138 in London, Ohio, receiving his 50-year pin in 1991.
Ralph was a part of the Egypt Temple Shrine and The Scottish Rite in Tampa, Florida, for 52 years.
He was associated with CH Smith Dairy and Smith Brothers Dairy in London, Ohio, into the early 1950s.
Ralph moved to Tampa, Florida, and joined Central Truck Lines retiring in 1975.
He purchased a grapefruit and orange grove and joined the Florida Citrus Mutual in 1969.
He is predeceased by his parents; wife of 68 years, Kathleen Owens Smith; siblings, Raymond (Amy) Smith of London, Ohio, Catherine Smith Dowell (Eugene) of Tampa, Florida, Naomi Smith Ballard (Fred) of London, Claude Ernest Smith of Tampa, Florida; cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
