Velma Elizabeth (Burgett) Phillips, 94, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio. entered the gates of Heaven Friday, March 29, 2013, at Scioto Community in Obetz, Ohio.
She was born May 21, 1918, near Commercial Point, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Phillips after 64 wonderful years of marriage; by parents, Thomas and Ella (Murray) Burgett; by sisters, Nora Cantor, Mazie Ridgway, Wanda Holby; and by brothers, Roy, Carl, and Vernis Burgett.
She is survived by sons, Jerry (Judy) of Canal Winchester and Mickey (Joyce) of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren, Jeff (Heather), Joby (Amber) and James (Kristen) Phillips, and Julie (Tim) Wickline; four great-grandchildren, Bryce and Blake Wickline, Isaiah David Phillips, and Hannah Jane Phillips; step-grandchildren, Clay (Patti), Bo, Daniel, and Brett Burgett, plus 10 step-great-grandchildren; by several nieces and nephews.
Velma was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling for over 70 years and a member of Pythian Sisters No. 536 for over 50 years. She served on the Mt. Sterling Election Board for over 40 years. She spent her last 11 years at Mt. Sterling Place in Mt. Sterling and at Scioto Community in Obetz.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. Main St., Mt. Sterling. Rev. Dortha Ross will be officiating. The interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3.
Memorial contributions may be given to Odyssey Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling.
