Willis J. "Slim" Skaggs, 77, of West Jefferson, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.
Willis was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Martha, Kentucky.
He owned and operated J&J Towing for 27 years and prior to that he worked at Columbus Paper Box for 15 and 1/2 years.
Willis loved his family and worked hard everyday to provide for them. His business was a priority in this world, but the Lord was special in his heart. He raised his children to love and live for the Lord.
He was the mechanic that people from all over the county came to when they needed their car worked on. He was loved and will be missed by many in the community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Van and Gladys (Sparks) Skaggs; brother, Wilbur D. Skaggs; sister, Egie Ruth Fogt; grandsons, Jonathan L. Tackett and Jason R. Skaggs; sons-in-law, William "Andy" Anderson and Frank "Jr." Tackett.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia (Wheeler) Skaggs; children, Deborah F. Tackett, Richard D. (Cindy) Skaggs, James/Ken (Linda) Skaggs, and Patricia A. Anderson; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Johnson, Rachel (Gary) Likens, Joshua (Cara) Skaggs, Karen (James) Clever, Joel (Erica) Skaggs, Jacob Anderson, and Christina (Nathaniel) Bennett; granddaughter-in-law, Robin Skaggs; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson. Funeral Service will be had at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Harvest Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union, 530 West Jefferson-Kiousville Road, West Jefferson. Rev. Ken Skaggs and Rev. Deborah Tackett will be officiating. Burial will follow in Hampton Cemetery.
