WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE - Harry Robert "Bob" Hastings Jr., 69, of Washington Court House, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at his home.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1944 in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, to Harry Robert "Bob" Hastings Sr. and Cora L. "Boots" Hollar Hastings Matthews.
Bob attended the Mt. Sterling High School and graduated from the American School in 1966. He enjoyed many things including woodworking, hunting, riding four-wheelers, vacationing with his family and mushroom hunting. His favorite pastime was riding his golf cart, stopping to chat with his friends and neighbors and helping other people in any way that he could. He loved to spread the Word of His Lord to everyone that he met.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loved his family and friends and most of all he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.
He retired on Dec. 31, 2002 from the Fayette County Engineer's Office as the Assistant Superintendent of the Highway Department after 28 years of service. He enjoyed his 11 full years of retirement. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Sterling.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Harry "Bob" Hastings Sr.; his son, Harry R. "Bobby" Hastings III; and father-in-law, Arnold E. "Gene" Gillenwater Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Cora Matthews; Vickie Sue Gillenwater Hastings, the love of his life with whom he recently celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary; children, Kim and her husband Jay Smith and Tracey and her husband Roger Maddux; grandchildren, Harry R. "Robbie" Hastings IV, Joshua Maddux, Private Jacob Maddux U.S. Army, McKenzie Maddux, Matthew Smith and Weston Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Allen Neff; nieces, Stacey Neff and Sherry (Gary) Bogan; mother-in-law, Joan Rogers; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends including special friends Jay, Cori, Lathan and Lyndi Cockerill and Dale Wilson.
The family would like to thank the Hospice nurses, Nancy Bennett and Emily Bower.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 226 N. Market St., Mt. Sterling, OH 43143, with Pastor Jeff Griffith and Pastor Dortha Ross officiating with burial to follow at the Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Ave., Washington Court House, OH 43160.
