Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Wichita, Kan., he attended local schools, North High and John Brown University in Arkansas.
With war clouds looming, Armand took leave as a display artist with the K.G. and E. and enlisted in the Navy six years prior to Pearl Harbor. He served as a chief petty officer with an air squadron attached to the Atlantic Fleet for the duration of the war.
A 10-day leave in 1942 afforded him the opportunity to return to Wichita and marry Rosemary Giboney who, shortly thereafter, joined him on the East Coast.
Armand joined the Central Maine Power Co. in October 1945, where he "wore several hats" including display, sales promotion and was a member of the Advertising Club of Portland. Retiring 35 years later, he pursued his meaningful hobbies. He and his beloved Rosemary continued their many long-to-be-remembered travel experiences.
In Armand's twilight, he was heard to say, "I have lived. I have laughed and I have cried. I have loved and been loved. I have truly been blessed with a loving family and caring friends. God has been good to me."
Armand and his devoted family suffered the loss of his adored wife of over 59 years. He now leaves his daughter and son-in-law Anne and Jack Savona, his daughter Debra Hart, and his son, Dirck Ashenfelter. He leaves six grandchildren, Andrea Brown and her husband, Rick, Greg Savona and his wife, Erika, Megan Hart and her husband, Tony Sprague, Erik Hart and his wife, Denise, Stephanie Ashenfelter, and Katelyn Ashenfelter; as well as five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Sydney Brown, Katherine and Avery Hart, and Ryan Savona.
Per Armand's request, his ashes will be committed to the sea off Bailey Island by the family at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a memorial reception this Sunday, May 22, at the Augusta Country Club from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Mission, c/o Sisters Barbara and Maureen, P.O. Box 268, Crown Point, NM 87313.

Anne, Jack, Deb and Dirck, I am so sorry I can't be with you on Sunday. We leave the UK for good on June 1 and I'm so sad that I can't just pick up and fly back to celebrate his life with you. I was hoping I'd be back in the US before he left. Seth and Mother will be there on Sunday. I'll be in touch with all of you when I return.

Dear Anne & Jack, Deb and Dirck:
Please accept my deepest condolences. Your father was a great man that I was fortunate enough to call 'Dad' too. I hope the happy memories you all hold dear will help to ease your sorrow. I know he's dancing in heaven with 'Mom' now.

Armand send me a card 6 years ago when my Dad, Norm Temple, another longtime CMP and WW2 vet, passed away. The card read, in Armands own handwriting -" I feel your pain....I share your loss". Just wanted to let you know the Temple family feels the same way about Armand and his family. May god bless Armand Ashenfelter and his wife, and his former CMP circle of friends.
